A 28-year-old doctor was shot dead in front of his father during a robbery outside a bank near Teen Talwar, Clifton on Monday, as street crime continues unabated in the city.
Police said Dr Akash had gone to the bank with his father and cousin to deposit Rs5 million. While they were outside the bank, four robbers on two motorcycles intercepted them.
During an exchange of fire between the suspects and a security guard, Dr Akash was hit in the chest while sitting in the back seat of their car. One of the robbers snatched a bag containing Rs2.5 million before fleeing. The remaining Rs2.5 million was saved. Dr Akash was taken to a nearby private hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
SSP South Mehzoor Ali said the victims had withdrawn cash from one bank and were depositing it in another when the suspects followed them. Police have obtained CCTV footage of the incident and detained the security guard. The investigation will determine whose bullet killed Dr Akash.
Following the killing, the family placed Dr Akash's body at Teen Talwar and staged a protest, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible. Protesters blocked both tracks of the road, causing major traffic disruption.
