Netflix has officially ordered a new reality competition series inspired by the iconic board game Monopoly, giving contestants the chance to compete for a $2 million cash prize.

The unscripted series, developed in partnership with Hasbro Entertainment, is scheduled to premiere in fall 2027.

The competition will feature 12 contestants battling it out in a life-sized Monopoly Town Square designed to recreate the classic board game. Throughout the series, players will earn money, purchase properties, negotiate deals and form strategic alliances as they attempt to avoid bankruptcy. Contestants eliminated after going bankrupt will leave the game until only one player remains to claim the $2 million prize.

The Monopoly competition series is produced by Studio Lambert, the company behind successful Netflix reality shows Squid Game: The Challenge and The Circle. Executive producers include Gabriel Marano and Zachary Edwin for Hasbro Entertainment, alongside Studio Lambert's Nia Yemoh, Tim Harcourt, Jack Burgess, Stephen Lambert and Kim Murphy.

The series is part of Hasbro Entertainment's broader strategy to expand its popular board game franchises across film and television. The company previously announced a live-action Monopoly movie in collaboration with LuckyChap Entertainment and Lionsgate. Additional projects based on Hasbro properties include new scripted and unscripted adaptations of Clue and a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series currently in development at Netflix.

Originally launched in 1935, Monopoly remains one of the world's best-selling board games, with more than 275 million copies sold globally. Netflix's upcoming adaptation aims to bring the game's familiar blend of strategy, negotiation and competition to television audiences through a high-stakes reality format.
