The death of Jurassic Park star Sam Neill has prompted an outpouring of tributes, and one question from fans: What was his cause of death?

Neill died on July 13 in Sydney, Australia. His family confirmed the news in a statement, describing his passing as "sudden and unexpected." However, they did not reveal an official cause of death.

The family also clarified that Neill had remained cancer-free at the time of his death, despite his highly publicized battle with stage-three angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer diagnosed in 2022.

The actor first opened up about his diagnosis in his 2023 memoir, Did I Ever Tell You About This?, revealing he had undergone chemotherapy after discovering swollen glands while promoting Jurassic World Dominion. Although chemotherapy initially helped, he later said it stopped working, leading doctors to try an experimental treatment.

Earlier this year, Neill shared the encouraging news that he had achieved complete remission after undergoing CAR T-cell therapy, an advanced form of immunotherapy that reprograms a patient's immune cells to fight cancer. He described the treatment as life-changing and said there was no evidence of cancer remaining in his body.

Because of Neill's recent health update, many initially assumed cancer had caused his death. However, his family has stated that he remained cancer-free and has not linked his passing to his previous illness.

Until the family or medical officials provide additional information, Sam Neill's official cause of death remains unknown.

Neill leaves behind a legacy spanning more than five decades in film and television, with memorable performances in Jurassic Park, The Piano, Peaky Blinders, Event Horizon and many other acclaimed projects.
