The family also clarified that Neill had remained cancer-free at the time of his death, despite his highly publicized battle with stage-three angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer diagnosed in 2022.

The actor first opened up about his diagnosis in his 2023 memoir, Did I Ever Tell You About This?, revealing he had undergone chemotherapy after discovering swollen glands while promoting Jurassic World Dominion. Although chemotherapy initially helped, he later said it stopped working, leading doctors to try an experimental treatment.

Earlier this year, Neill shared the encouraging news that he had achieved complete remission after undergoing CAR T-cell therapy, an advanced form of immunotherapy that reprograms a patient's immune cells to fight cancer.
