Police claim killing two robbers
Two suspected robbers were killed in an alleged police encounter near Tariq Chowk in Kot Addu on Saturday.
According to police, the suspects had allegedly robbed a citizen of a motorcycle at gunpoint near Tariq Chowk. While attempting to flee, they opened fire on police personnel patrolling the area.
The police said they returned fire, killing the two suspects, Tanveer and Ghulam Siddique. The deceased were stated to be residents of Dera Ismail Khan and Thatta Gurmani.
Rescue officials shifted the bodies to the Kot Addu District Headquarters Hospital under police supervision.
The police said legal proceedings regarding the case were under way.
In another incident, the police arrested a man for allegedly making a false helpline call about robbery in an attempt to implicate his rivals in a case.
Acording to the police, the call was made from the Khairpur Sadat area.
Alipur DSP Allah Yar Saifi arrived at the spot at around 3:00am, where local police had launched an inquiry into the reported incident.
During the investigation, the caller, Muhammad Bilal, was found to have fabricated the allegation to falsely implicate his rivals in a criminal case. The caller was taken into custody and a case was registered against him.
Officials said furnishing false information to law enforcement agencies was a punishable offence and warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found misusing emergency services or attempting to mislead the police.
