Foreign woman's mistreatment claim prompts inquiry

DIG orders investigation after video alleging violent treatment by police surfaces

ISLAMABAD:

A video showing a foreign woman alleging mistreatment by female police personnel at Islamabad's Kohsar Police Station has surfaced online, prompting the deputy inspector general (DIG) of Islamabad police to order an inquiry into the incident.

The footage shows the foreign woman wailing and shouting inside the police station, while police personnel can be seen speaking sternly to her.

The woman alleged that she was subjected to violence by female officers at Kohsar Police Station. Sources said the foreign national had herself called the police to Sector F-6 over a financial dispute, where the Chinese woman was allegedly mistreated.

According to the Islamabad Police spokesperson, the DIG took immediate notice of the incident and directed SSP Operations Qazi Ali Raza to conduct a transparent inquiry.

The DIG said strict action would be taken against anyone found responsible. Initial information suggests the matter is of a civil nature, and efforts will be made to resolve the dispute through mutual understanding between the parties.

In a subsequent video statement, the Chinese woman said she had recorded and uploaded the video to the internet due to a misunderstanding. She apologised for posting it, saying the Islamabad Police are "a very good police force", and explained that the dispute was with her employer rather than with the police.
