KOTRI:

Sui Southern Gas Company's Kotri Zone conducted a major operation against gas theft in different areas of Kotri Site and Khuda Ki Basti, uncovering theft worth Rs10 million per month.

SSGC teams disconnected approximately 2,000 illegal connections during the raid. Thousands of meters of rubber gas pipes and clips were also seized and taken into custody.

Officials said a gang involved in gas theft had damaged 4-inch and 6-inch main pipelines by installing clips to siphon gas, which was then being sold illegally.

Senior General Manager Sindh-Balochistan Madni Siddiqui said gas was being stolen in illegal residential colonies in Kotri.

"We have caught 2,000 households with illegal gas connections. Gas theft was causing a loss of Rs 10 million per month," he said. He added that lenient laws against domestic consumers were encouraging theft.
