IU and Lee Jong-suk confirm split after 4 years together

'They decided to remain good colleagues', one of the stars' agency added, confirming that the two had broken up

South Korean singer and actor IU and actor Lee Jong-suk have ended their relationship after four years, according to confirmations from both stars' agencies.

According to the JoongAng Ilbo, a representative from IU's agency, EDAM Entertainment, confirmed the news on Friday, saying, "They have broken up."

Lee Jong-suk's agency, Ace Factory, also confirmed the separation, stating, "It is true that they have broken up," before adding, "They decided to remain good colleagues."

The pair first met in 2012 while serving as co-hosts of SBS music programme Inkigayo.

Their relationship became public in December 2022 after Lee accepted the grand prize for his performance in the drama Big Mouth at the MBC Drama Awards.

During his acceptance speech, Lee thanked an unnamed person, saying, "Thank you for always being so wonderful. I want you to know that I've liked you very much for a very long time."

The couple confirmed their relationship the following day and went on to become one of South Korea's most recognisable celebrity couples.

IU made her debut as a singer in 2008 and has released hit songs including Good Day, You & I and Through the Night. Alongside her music career, she has established herself as an actor with roles in dramas including My Mister and When Life Gives You Tangerines.

Lee began his career as a model in 2005 before moving into acting with Princess Prosecutor in 2010. He later starred in productions including Secret Garden and Pinocchio, and is set to appear in the upcoming Disney+ series The Remarried Empress.
