Couple found dead in fields
Initial reports suggest deceased wanted to marry each other

Police have launched an investigation after a young man and woman were found dead under mysterious circumstances in fields in the Fida area of Mailsi on Thursday.
According to the police, the bodies were found in agricultural fields in Basti Noor Pura after they received information about the matter. The corpses were taken into custody and shifted to the tehsil headquarters hospital for post-mortem examination.
The deceased were identified as Hafiz Mushahid and Shaheen, residents of Noor Pura.
The police said preliminary inquiries suggested that the two wanted to marry but their families had allegedly opposed the proposal. Investigators were examining suggestions that they might have consumed poisonous tablets.
However, the police emphasised that the cause of death had not yet been established and no conclusion could be drawn until the post-mortem and forensic reports were received.
After completing medico-legal formalities, the bodies were handed over to the families of the deceased for burial.
The police also collected evidence from the scene for forensic examination.
Station House Officer (SHO) Farooq Ramzan said investigators were reviewing all available evidence and probing every possible angle to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
He added that neither family had submitted a formal complaint till the evening, therefore, a case had not been registered.
The police said legal action would be taken in light of the post-mortem findings, forensic evidence and the outcome of the investigation.
