'Robber' killed in police shootout

A robbery suspect opened fire on a police team near Lane No 1, Sir Syed Road, within the jurisdiction of Civil Lines Police Station, leaving an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) injured. The suspect, who initially managed to escape during the ensuing chase, was later killed in an alleged police shoot-out.

According to police, a police team conducted a raid to arrest Taimoor, a suspect wanted in a robbery case. During the operation, the suspect allegedly opened fire on the police team, critically injuring ASI Muhammad Hafeez, who sustained gunshot wounds to the head and leg. The suspect managed to flee the scene, while the injured officer was taken to hospital, where he remains under treatment.

Police teams continued to pursue the suspect, with personnel from the Crime Control Department (CCD) also joining the search operation. During the pursuit, the suspect was surrounded by the police team and was reportedly seriously injured in an exchange of gunfire. He was being transported to hospital but succumbed to his injuries on the way.

A police spokesperson said ASI Hafeez was seriously injured during the exchange of gunfire. One alleged robber was killed, while another escaped the scene while firing at police.

The deceased suspect was identified as Taimoor, who, according to police, had previously opened fire on a police team. Police said he was a proclaimed offender with a criminal record involving terrorism, robbery, vehicle theft, attempted murder and several other offences.

The spokesperson added that earlier in the day, the suspect had allegedly robbed an employee of a courier company at gunpoint, stealing a mobile phone and cash.
