June warmer, drier than normal nationwide

Pakistan received below-average rainfall and experienced slightly warmer-than-normal temperatures during June 2026, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Sunday.

According to the PMD's monthly climate report, rainfall across the country remained 19 per cent below normal, while average minimum and mean temperatures stayed above seasonal averages.

The report said the country recorded an average rainfall of 19.6 millimetres during the month, while the national mean temperature stood at 32.0 degrees Celsius, 0.3°C above normal.

Average nighttime minimum temperatures were recorded at 25.2°C, 0.6°C above the seasonal average, whereas average daytime maximum temperatures reached 38.8°C, remaining broadly in line with normal conditions.

According to the PMD, the hottest day of the month was recorded on June 1 in Shaheed Benazirabad and on June 11 and 12 in Dadu, where temperatures soared to 51°C. Sibi, in Balochistan, was the country's hottest location during June, recording the highest monthly average maximum temperature of 46.7°C.

The report said the coldest night of the month was recorded at 8°C in Astore on June 6 and in Malam Jabba on June 6, 20 and 21.

Babusar remained the country's coldest location during the month, recording a monthly average minimum temperature of 10.9°C.

According to the report, Joharabad in Punjab received the highest single-day rainfall of 71.6 millimetres on June 13, while Malam Jabba emerged as the wettest location during the month with a cumulative rainfall of 261 millimetres.

The PMD also noted that El Niño conditions persisted over the Pacific Ocean, with sea surface temperatures showing a positive anomaly of approximately 1.02°C.
