Water tanker driver killed, five injured in road crashes

A water tanker driver was killed while five others, including his two sons and two police officials, were injured in three separate traffic accidents reported in different parts of the metropolis on Sunday.
The fatal incident occurred near Rahat Commercial in Defence Phase VI within the limits of Gizri police station, where a speeding water tanker overturned while taking a turn and crashed into the wall of a bungalow.
According to rescue officials, three persons were trapped inside the vehicle. Police, Rescue 1122, and Chhipa teams reached the scene and carried out a rescue operation. One person was found dead while two others were pulled out injured from the driver's cabin.
The casualties were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
PS Gizri SHO Inspector Asghar Ali Kango identified the deceased as 50-year-old Yasir, son of Karam Din, who was driving the tanker.
The injured included his sons, 24-year-old Rizwan and 10-year-old Huzaifa. Rizwan also worked as a cleaner. The family resides in Bilal Colony, Korangi, and hails originally from Bahawalpur. Police handed over the body to heirs after completing legal formalities, while the injured are reported to be out of danger.
CCTV footage of the accident showed the tanker overturning while taking a sharp turn at high speed. The vehicle was later lifted with the help of a crane and shifted to the Gizri police station.
In another incident near the New Truck Stand on Hawke's Bay Road in Mauripur, two police officials riding a motorcycle were injured after being hit by a truck. They were shifted to Civil Hospital by Edhi ambulances.
Police identified the injured as 30-year-old Faizan Ahmed and 45-year-old Malik Tahir, both posted at Mauripur police station.
In a third accident near Lal Kothi on Sharae Faisal, a speeding car went out of control and mounted the footpath. A motorcyclist following behind lost control while applying brakes and fell, sustaining injuries. However, the occupants of the car remained unharmed.
