HARIPUR, HATTAR:

Following The Express Tribune report based on a UNICEF study on environmental pollution, local administration launched a major crackdown against poultry feed factories operating in Hattar Industrial Estate, sealing 12 factories for violating various laws and official directives.

During the operation, officials carried out detailed inspections and found several serious irregularities, including ineffective control of air pollution, violations of safety regulations, contamination of the environment and water resources through industrial waste and wastewater, non-compliance with labour laws, failure to provide a safe working environment for employees, and poor sanitation arrangements.

Twelve poultry feed factories were sealed on the spot.

Khanpur Assistant Commissioner Junaid Khalid directed that all vehicles transporting poultry waste and other industrial waste must be fully covered to prevent foul odours, environmental pollution and the spread of diseases.

District police have also been instructed to take indiscriminate action against vehicles transporting poultry waste in the open.

The district administration said no compromise would be made on public health, environmental protection, public safety or the rule of law. All industrial units have been directed to ensure full compliance with environmental, safety and labour regulations, warning that strict legal action against violators will continue.
