Lindsay Lohan has said she is embracing the next stage of her life as she celebrated her 40th birthday, revealing she feels grateful for where she is personally and professionally.

The actress marked the milestone on July 2 by reflecting on ageing, family life and the lessons she has learned over the past decade.

"I don't feel it internally, so that's great," Lohan told People. "I'm excited. My life is great, and I'm very grateful, and I'm just very happy. Looking forward to it."

The Freakier Friday star said she planned to celebrate her birthday with "family and close friends", including her husband, Bader Shammas, and their two-year-old son, Luai.

Lohan also shared a heartfelt post on Instagram featuring photographs from different stages of her life. Looking back on her 30s, she described them as "the decade that changed everything in the most meaningful ways."

"I got married, became a mother, and understood a deeper kind of love, one that reshaped what truly matters," she wrote. "I'm no longer searching for who I am, I'm living it."

Speaking about the biggest lesson she has learned over the past decade, Lohan said appreciating time has become increasingly important.

"That time is precious, and sometimes we forget time goes by so quickly that we should really enjoy every moment to its fullest," she said.

Earlier this year, Lohan and Shammas celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary with a dinner date in New York. Marking the occasion on social media, she wrote, "Happy anniversary to my one and only."

The actress has increasingly focused on family life while continuing her return to the screen, with Freakier Friday marking another significant chapter in her acting career.
