Low-cost financing sought for solar batteries

FPCCI links proposal to upcoming Solar & Storage Expo, cites need to cut energy costs

The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has called for a special concessional financing scheme at 3% markup for solar battery purchases, as the Pakistan Solar Association prepares to host the Solar & Storage Expo 2026 from July 10 to 12 at the Lahore Expo Centre.

FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh said the promotion of solar energy is no longer an option but a strategic necessity for Pakistan's industrial competitiveness, export growth and energy security.

Addressing a press conference, FPCCI Regional Chairman Zaki Aijaz urged federal and provincial governments to introduce the financing facility, noting that such an initiative would enable industries to adopt cost-effective energy solutions, reduce production costs and enhance international competitiveness.

The three-day exhibition will occupy three halls and feature more than 70 international and 70 local brands, showcasing cutting-edge solar technologies, advanced energy storage solutions and the latest innovations in renewable energy products and services.

Aijaz commended Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the government's decision not to impose additional taxes on solar panels, batteries and inverters, describing it as a business-friendly measure. However, he emphasised that further policy interventions are required to accelerate nationwide adoption of green energy.
