Woman, son held for allegedly plotting expat's murder

The Crime Control Department (CCD) has claimed to have solved the two-year-old blind murder of a British-Pakistani man, arresting the victim's wife and son on charges of allegedly masterminding the killing over a property dispute.

According to CCD officials, Mirza Shehzad Baig, who had returned from the United Kingdom, was shot dead by unidentified assailants on the doorstep of his home in Faisalabad locality within the jurisdiction of Model Town police station two years ago.

The investigation was later transferred to the CCD.

During the initial probe, four suspects, including Nauman and Zaheer, were arrested and sent for trial. The accused allegedly named the victim's son, Shahzaib, as one of the conspirators, leading investigators to nominate him in the case.

Officials said the victim's wife, Shehnaz, subsequently became the complainant after the victim's brother, Mirza Iqbal, who had initially lodged the case.

However, during court proceedings, Shehnaz reportedly testified in favour of all the accused, resulting in their acquittal.

The unexpected testimony raised fresh suspicions, prompting the CCD to reopen the investigation and re-examine the evidence.

During renewed interrogation, investigators alleged that the arrested suspects disclosed that Shahzaib and his mother, Shehnaz, had financed the murder.

The CCD has now arrested both Shahzaib and Shehnaz, while the victim's brother, Mirza Iqbal, has once again been made the complainant in the case.
