Ice treats arranged for zoo animals
.

Wildlife authorities have launched an initiative to help zoo animals cope with soaring temperatures by providing ice treats made from fruits and vegetables.
Bears, monkeys, giraffes and several other species in Lahore Zoo, Safari Zoo and Pirrowal Wildlife Park are being offered frozen nutritional treats designed to keep them cool while encouraging natural feeding behaviour.
According to the Punjab Wildlife Rangers, the initiative forms part of the department's environmental enrichment programme aimed at improving the welfare of captive animals by promoting natural instincts, reducing heat stress and enhancing both physical and mental well-being.
Lahore Zoo Deputy Director Shahzaib Khurshid said the frozen treats are prepared using apples, peaches, melons, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes and other nutritious ingredients. He said the ice-based diet helps regulate the animals' body temperature while encouraging them to search, explore and remain physically active.
