'Minions & Monsters' director Pierre Coffin finally addresses the viral fan theory linking Minions to Hitler

 

Minions & Monsters director Pierre Coffin has addressed one of the franchise's longest-running internet debates, confirming that the iconic yellow characters were never associated with Adolf Hitler or the Nazi regime during World War II.

The question has circulated online for years, largely stemming from the timeline established in the 2015 animated film Minions. In that film, the Minions retreat to a cave after failing to find a worthy master, remaining hidden for more than a century before re-emerging in the late 1960s. That storyline appeared to avoid placing the characters anywhere near the events of World War II.

However, the newly released Minions & Monsters introduces multiple tribes of Minions around the world, prompting renewed speculation from fans about whether any of the newly revealed groups could have encountered infamous historical figures.

Speaking to Polygon, Coffin responded directly to the theory. While joking about the question, he ultimately confirmed that none of the known Minion tribes worked for Hitler or participated in the events of the Second World War. Coffin explained that the original Minions remained in their cave, while the additional tribes introduced in the new film were "not part of the Big History."

The filmmaker also addressed other frequently discussed fan theories surrounding the franchise. Coffin revealed that an early concept for Minion origins involved tiny yellow organisms spreading across planets after the Big Bang, though the idea was ultimately abandoned. He further stated that Minions are effectively immortal, confirming they cannot die despite the countless explosions and accidents depicted throughout the series.

Coffin's comments provide the clearest official answer yet to one of the internet's most persistent Minions fan theories, while expanding the fictional mythology behind the popular animated franchise.
