Pakistan's role as peacemaker between Iran and the United States, especially in brokering the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has been lauded in Russia at the International Legal Forum in St Petersburg which Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed addressed.

The St Petersburg International Legal Forum is a prestigious annual international event, also attended by the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court.

In his speech on the event's concluding day, Sayed spoke about Pakistan's role in peacemaking adding that as a pivotal player in Eurasia, Pakistan is at the heart of regional connectivity in geo-economics and the centre stage of global diplomacy in geo-politics.

He referred to Pakistan's role as an emerging major Muslim Middle Power and stated that in the next 10 years, Asia would see the rise of five major Muslim Middle powers: Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Indonesia.

Sayed referred to the tactics of neocolonialism used to control countries through regime change, a role that has destabilized countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

He referred to the overthrow of the government of Iran in 1953, the regime change in Guatemala in 1954 and the 1960 coup in Congo which killed the great African freedom fighter, Patrice Lumumba.

Referring to the illegal aggression launched by the United States and Israel against Iran, the senator said the purpose of the war was to initiate regime change in Iran and to promote the notion of "greater Israel" but, thankfully, due to the heroic resistance of the Iranian nation, that plan was foiled and the aggressors suffered a major defeat, which was the biggest setback for the West and Israel since the the Suez war in 1956.

He said for the first time, the principle of reparations had been accepted under the framework of economic development and reconstruction through the establishment of a special facility of $300 billion for Iran, which has been incorporated in the 14-point Islamabad MOU.

Sayed also condemned the Israeli aggression against Lebanon, adding that "Pakistan stands firmly with our brethren in Lebanon." He also referred to the changing regional landscape of the Middle East and South Asia in the past one year where 3 wars had reshaped these regions.

He said Israel's Gaza Genocide has brought about the burial of the Abraham Accords, the Indian aggression against Pakistan has buried the notion of 'Akhand Bharat' and the US-Israeli aggression against Iran has buried the dream of "Greater Israel".
