Cotton growers cautioned
The Punjab Agriculture Department has issued an advisory for cotton growers following reports of plant reddening and wilting in early-sown crops in parts of the Sahiwal, Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan divisions.
According to the department, cotton reddening is mainly caused by nutrient deficiencies, particularly of potassium and magnesium, while wilting is linked to moisture stress and prevailing dry weather.
The farmers have been advised to consult agricultural experts before taking remedial measures, apply recommended nutrient sprays and assess crop water requirements before irrigation, especially during the critical boll formation stage.
