Repeated damage to water mains during BRT, K-IV augmentation works disrupts life

Repeated damage to water pipelines during development work on University Road continues to compound Karachi's civic woes, with another rupture on Tuesday disrupting water supply to several neighbourhoods, leaving residents to grapple with both chronic traffic congestion and recurring water shortages.

The latest incident comes amid mounting complaints that frequent ruptures caused by construction activities are leaving residents to contend with both severe traffic congestion and recurring water shortages.

According to officials of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), a six-inch water supply line was ruptured during K-IV augmentation work on University Road, resulting in the suspension of water supply to Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 13-D/3, Baloch Goth, and adjoining localities.

Repair work was launched immediately, and officials said the damaged pipeline is expected to be restored by Wednesday morning.

The latest disruption follows another major incident near the Old Sabzi Mandi, where a 55-inch transmission main was damaged during construction work on the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project.

KWSC officials said water pipelines are being damaged almost daily during excavation and construction associated with both the Red Line BRT and K-IV augmentation projects, severely affecting the city's water distribution network and disrupting supply to consumers.

If Karachi rises it helps our country rise as well. Solving the problem of Karachi and of the residents should be one of the biggest priorities of the decision makers. Hopefully that day would come soon

Alia Batool | 2 weeks ago | Reply They are simply trying to make the lives of Karachiites miserable at every cost. It has now become obvious for many reasons. Despite decades of snatching killings violence targeted attacks and mass migration from different cities Karachi has continued to bear the burden. Many of those who migrated have now been settled in Karachi for decades. The worst part is that many people still do not take ownership of the city. They continue to create disorder by occupying footpaths with illegal hawkers ignoring regulations and contributing to the growing chaos on the streets. Even many police officers posted in Karachi are not from the city and many Karachiites feel they are treated disrespectfully and unfairly. Karachi deserves better governance proper enforcement of the law and respect for all of its residents.
