Rising Indus prompts safety warning
.

The NDMA has issued a nationwide alert ahead of expected pre-monsoon rains from June 28 to July 3, warning that a combination of intense heat and rainfall could accelerate glacier melting, sharply raise water levels in rivers and streams, and increase the risk of floods and landslides, as authorities urged the public to avoid unnecessary movement near waterways.
The warning comes as the water level in the Indus river has already risen due to the continuing heatwave in the country's upper and northern regions, where rapidly melting glaciers have significantly increased river flows.
