Sukkur passes Rs13.95b budget

Mayor says Rs2.76b earmarked for development despite no special grant from the govt

HYDERABAD:

The Sukkur Municipal Corporation on Saturday approved Rs13.95 billion budget for fiscal 2026-27 by a majority vote with a Rs1.28 billion budget surplus. Addressing the budget session Mayor barrister Arsalan Islam Shaikh said the corporation is expected to incur Rs12.66 billion expenditures in the coming financial year.

He apprised that Rs2.22 billion will be spent on ongoing development schemes and Rs540 million on the new projects. According to him, development funds will be provided to all the Union Committees (UCs) to ensure effective implementation of public welfare projects.

Shaikh claimed that the Sindh government has not provided special grant to Sukkur city yet they are utilising available resources to improve civic amenities, sanitation, drainage, road repairs and provision of other municipal services.

During the session, elected representatives presented budget proposals, public welfare projects and recommendations regarding development works in their respective areas.
