MUZAFFARGARH:

Police claimed to have arrested a man accused of brutally torturing his wife after she allegedly refused to return her mahr (dower), officials said on Saturday.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the case was registered on the complaint of the victim's father, who alleged that his son-in-law, Muhammad Husnain, demanded that his wife, Iqra Bibi, return her dower, consisting of two tolas of gold. When she refused, the dispute allegedly turned violent.

The complainant alleged that Husnain physically assaulted his wife and recorded a video of the abuse.

The FIR further states that the accused filled his canvas shoes with water and allegedly forced the victim to drink from them in an act of humiliation.

Police said the suspect was allegedly assisted during the assault by his friend, identified as Ejaz, and another unidentified accomplice.

According to investigators, the woman later managed to escape from the house and informed her father about the alleged abuse, prompting him to approach the police.

Following a preliminary investigation, police arrested Muhammad Husnain after finding sufficient grounds to support the allegations, officials said.

Further investigation is underway to determine the roles of the other suspects named in the case.
