China praises Pakistan's mediation efforts

ISLAMABAD:

DPM/FM Ishaq Dar on Wednesday held interaction with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who congratulated the DPM and the leadership for successfully conducting this mediation process and signing of Islamabad MOU.

During the interaction, the Chinese foreign minister praised Pakistan's untiring efforts for peace and stability, marked by continuous outreach, active mediation and sustained engagement, a DPM's Office news release said.

Dar briefed his Chinese counterpart on developments following the first round of talks in Burgenstock and the establishment of a high-level committee to supervise implementation of the Islamabad MoU.

He informed Wang that three working groups had been constituted to focus on nuclear issues, sanctions, and monitoring and dispute resolution, with the objective of facilitating a comprehensive agreement within 60 days.

Dar thanked Beijing for its support to the peace initiative, particularly President Xi Jinping's four-point peace proposal and the jointly developed five-point Pakistan-China peace initiative.

Wang congratulated Pakistan's leadership on successfully facilitating the talks and praised Islamabad's "continuous outreach, active mediation and sustained engagement" aimed at ending the conflict.

The two foreign ministers reaffirmed their commitment to work closely for a negotiated settlement and a permanent end to hostilities.
