Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez join Illumination’s 'Not Alone', a new animated alien adventure arriving in 2027

Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez are set to star in Not Alone, a new animated science-fiction comedy from Illumination, the studio behind blockbuster franchises including Despicable Me, Minions and The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
The upcoming animated feature was announced during the Annecy Animation Festival and marks Chalamet’s first major voice role in an animated film. According to details revealed by the studio, Chalamet will voice Joe, an introverted rocket mechanic who lives a quiet and solitary life. Gomez will portray Fran, a talented astro-botanist working to create the world’s first plant-powered rocket.
The story follows Joe and Fran as they prepare for the launch of the groundbreaking spacecraft. Their plans take an unexpected turn when three runaway aliens seek refuge in Joe’s home. The aliens, named Dunk, Welly and Shirm, are attempting to escape an overzealous law enforcement officer named Zandro and believe Fran’s rocket may be their ticket back home.
The voice cast also includes Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan, Jamie Demetriou and Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein. Supporting roles will be voiced by Allison Janney and Lamorne Morris.
Not Alone will be directed by a team of Illumination veterans, including Eric Guillon, Claire Dodgson and Jonathan Del Val. The project is being produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri, with executive producers Joy Poirel, Richard Curtis and David Distenfeld also attached.
The film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on April 16, 2027. With two of Hollywood’s most popular stars leading the cast, Not Alone is already emerging as one of the most anticipated animated movie releases on Illumination’s upcoming slate.
