Muharram processions begin in Pindi today
The series of mourning processions featuring Zuljanah, Alam and Tazia will begin today, Monday, the 6th of Muharram (June 22), alongside Majalis-i-Aza.
The first Zuljanah and Alam procession will emerge from Imambargah Gracy Line near Nur Khan Airbase. A suicide attack took place during this procession six years ago, resulting in the martyrdom of 11 security personnel and mourners.
Strict security arrangements have been made, with CCTV cameras installed along the entire route and heavy police deployment in place.
The procession will commence after Asr prayers and conclude at the same Imambargah after passing through its designated route.
On Tuesday, the 7th of Muharram, the central Mehndi procession will emerge from an Imambargah in Sadiqabad. Due to the Mehndi procession, no central Majalis will be held in the city, though ladies' gatherings will continue as usual. Another Mehndi procession will emerge from New Mohalla, Iqbal Road, after Isha prayers.
Both major processions will converge on Iqbal Road.
On the 8th of Muharram, Alam processions will emerge from all Imambargahs and continue throughout the night on designated routes. On the 9th of Muharram, central Zuljanah processions will be held in Islamabad and Rawalpindi Saddar.
On Ashura, six central Zuljanah, Alam, Tazia, Jhoola and Mehndi processions will be taken out in Rawalpindi. A total of 350 CCTV cameras have been installed along procession routes.
The stretch from Fawara Chowk to Dingi Khoi Chowk has been declared highly sensitive, with Rangers deployed in surrounding areas. Daily flag marches by police and other law-enforcement agencies will be conducted from the 7th to the 10th of Muharram.
