Naseerabad Police claimed on Sunday to have arrested three suspects in connection with a double murder case stemming from a land dispute in New Abadi Chakri, where a father and son were shot dead and two passer-by women were injured.
According to police, the incident occurred on June 13 when complainant Syed Umar Farooq informed authorities that he had come to Chakri Road to attend a funeral, along with Syed Shahzada Tabassum, Syed Mustafa Tabassum and others, who were travelling in separate vehicles.
After completing the funeral prayers, the parties were returning when, near Sada Road in New Abadi Chakri, their vehicle was intercepted by another car approaching from behind. Five armed men, including Raja Altaf, allegedly forced their vehicle to stop and opened indiscriminate fire.
As a result of the firing, Syed Shahzada Tabassum and Syed Mustafa Tabassum sustained critical injuries and later succumbed to their wounds. The assailants fled the scene while continuing to fire, police said.
During the attack, two passer-by women, identified as Zainab and another woman, were also injured due to gunfire, while others managed to save their lives by taking cover behind vehicles.
Police further said the dispute stemmed from a long-standing land conflict between Raja Altaf and Syed Shahzada Tabassum.
