Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the withdrawal of austerity measures introduced to conserve energy, while restrictions on business operating hours will remain in place.
According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, fuel conservation measures implemented at the government level have been revoked.
Under the new directives, the Friday weekly holiday for government employees has been abolished, officials will again be entitled to their full petrol allowance and up to 60% of the government vehicle fleet will be allowed back into operation.
However, restrictions on the operating hours of commercial centres and businesses will continue.
Under the notification, shops, markets and shopping malls will be required to close by 9pm, while wedding halls must conclude their events by 10pm. Restaurants and cafes will continue to close at 11pm while home delivery and takeaway services will remain exempt from the restrictions.
Meanwhile, the Senate Secretariat has withdrawn all fuel conservation and austerity measures with immediate effect, restoring a full five-day work schedule and normal staffing levels from Monday (tomorrow).
