Three kids swept away after mother jumps into river
A woman was arrested after allegedly jumping into the Jhelum River with her three young daughters in an apparent suicide attempt, resulting in the children being swept away by strong currents in a tragic incident reported from a village on the outskirts of Jhang.
According to police, Tahira Yasmeen, a resident of Mouza Chhata, allegedly jumped into the river along with her three daughters after a domestic dispute.
Local residents present at the scene managed to rescue the woman, but the children were carried away by the fast-flowing water.
The missing girls were identified as 10-year-old Sanam, seven-year-old Sadaf and three-year-old Maryam.
Police said Tahira Yasmeen had been married to Amir Khan for the past 12 years. Initial reports suggest that family and financial issues had led to frequent disputes between the couple.
According to the complaint lodged with police, an argument reportedly occurred after the woman asked her husband for travel expenses to visit her parents' home.
Rescue 1122 teams launched a search operation immediately after the incident. However, the bodies of the children could not be recovered by nightfall. The operation was suspended due to darkness and was scheduled to resume the following morning.
