RAWALPINDI:

The two-month lull in activities at the Rawalpindi district courts has ended following the withdrawal of Friday and Saturday court holidays introduced under the energy conservation programme.

On Saturday, all session, civil, family, magistrate and special courts conducted hearings as usual.

Accused persons in all cases were also produced before courts from Adiala Jail, while lawyers actively pursued their cases.

Judges continued hearing cases throughout the day. Session, civil, family and special courts granted physical remand of 33 arrested suspects, sent 21 accused to jail on judicial remand, approved bail applications of 16 suspects and rejected those of nine others.

The courts awarded sentences to 12 accused and acquitted 10 others. Four women were granted divorce decrees, while summons were issued to husbands in six newly filed family cases. One woman was reunited with her son, two women were sent to Darul Aman and one woman was allowed to leave the shelter home.

Arrest warrants were issued for nine accused, while five individuals were declared proclaimed offenders. Arrest warrants were also issued for four police officials, and the salaries of three officials were withheld.

The courts ordered the auction of properties belonging to seven defaulters of financial institutions.
