KWSC rolls out Ashura emergency plan
Arrangements ordered for water supply, drainage services along procession routes

With preparations for Ashura entering the final stage, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has unveiled an emergency plan aimed at ensuring uninterrupted water supply and efficient drainage services for mourners and residents during Muharram-ul-Haram.
The special contingency measures have been launched on the directives of Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab and KWSC Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, with officials instructed to remain on high alert throughout the observance of Ashura.
According to a circular issued by Chief Operating Officer Engineer Asadullah Khan, all relevant officers and field staff have been directed to coordinate closely with the district administration, police, elected representatives, the Jafaria Alliance and other religious organisations to ensure smooth arrangements during Muharram processions and gatherings.
The corporation has ordered the completion of all water supply and sewerage-related work before Ashura, particularly around mosques, imambargahs, majalis venues, sabeels and procession routes.
Superintending engineers have been instructed to maintain constant liaison with district authorities, while water and sewerage officials have been directed to ensure uninterrupted water supply, thorough cleaning of sewerage lines, and the repair and covering of manholes in sensitive areas.
KWSC has also ordered all jetting and suction machines, along with other essential equipment, to remain fully operational to deal with any emergency situation.
Special duty rosters will be enforced during the Muharram holidays to ensure complaints are addressed without delay.
The Hydrants Cell has been specifically tasked with guaranteeing water availability at mosques, imambargahs, majalis venues, sabeels, processions and other religious gatherings to facilitate mourners and prevent any inconvenience.
