Stranded picnickers rescued in Haripur
A potentially tragic incident was averted in Haripur when rescue teams safely evacuated several tourists, including women and children, who were stranded in a flash flood in the Daur River near the city bypass.
According to sources, two families had gone to the river for a picnic when a sudden surge of water swept through the area following torrential rain in the upper catchments. The pleasant weather had attracted numerous families to the river, with many sitting in the riverbed while children played in the water.
As the water level rose rapidly, dozens of picnickers became trapped by the strong current. Police reached the scene but were unable to proceed into the flooded area due to the intensity of the flow. The stranded families attempted to escape on their own, but the swift current made it impossible.
