Wanted suspect killed in alleged police encounter

A suspected inter-district suspected allegedly wanted in kidnapping-for-ransom and several other serious criminal cases was killed during an alleged police encounter near Pul Gajuji in the jurisdiction of Saddar Police Station, police said on Wednesday.

A spokesman for police said law enforcement officials received information regarding the presence of proclaimed offenders in the area and launched an operation to apprehend them.

As police teams moved in, the suspects allegedly opened indiscriminate fire, triggering an exchange of gunfire. During the encounter, the suspect identified as Asghar Jarh sustained fatal injuries, allegedly from gunfire fired by his own accomplices.

He died at the scene, while the remaining suspects managed to escape.

Police said Asghar Jarh was a wanted criminal allegedly involved in multiple cases, including kidnapping for ransom, attempted murder, highway robbery and other serious offences.

He was also wanted by police in both Dera Ghazi Khan and Multan districts.
