Balochistan imposes Section 144 during Muharram

The Balochistan government has introduced province-wide restrictions under Section 144 as part of a comprehensive security plan for Muharram-ul-Haram, aiming to preserve peace and prevent any disruption to public order.

According to an official notification issued by the Home Department, the restrictions will be in place from the 1st to the 10th of Muharram. Authorities have reserved the right to extend or lift these measures earlier, depending on the prevailing security situation.

The notification strictly prohibits the creation, circulation, display, or online sharing of any sectarian, inflammatory, or hate-based material that could incite tensions or disturb communal harmony. The ban extends to all forms of communication, including social media platforms and other digital channels.

In addition, the carrying, display, or public exhibition of firearms and ammunition has been banned throughout the province. Security personnel and officials authorized by the government will, however, remain exempt from these restrictions while performing their duties.

Quetta district will face additional precautionary measures, including a complete ban on pillion riding on motorcycles. Authorities have also restricted the entry of heavy sound systems and branded loudspeakers brought from outside the district unless prior permission has been obtained from the concerned authorities.

To strengthen security arrangements during Muharram processions and religious gatherings, people unrelated to these events will not be allowed to gather on rooftops, balconies, windows, or other elevated locations situated along procession routes. Only residents of the buildings and individuals specifically permitted by the district administration will be allowed access to such areas.

The Home Department has instructed Deputy Commissioners, police officials, and all relevant law enforcement agencies to ensure strict enforcement of the orders across the province.

The notification further warned that violations of Section 144 would result in legal action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code and other applicable laws.
