The controversy began after comments surfaced in early 2026 involving streamer Steven “Destiny” Bonne, which included serious allegations directed at Ethan Klein. The statements were later referenced during an iDubbbz livestream, where he discussed the situation while using an alter-ego character.

In a June 2026 stream, iDubbbz stated that he was being sued by Klein in Calgary, Alberta, for defamation. He said at the time that he intended to contest the lawsuit and expressed concern about its implications for the online commentary community.

Earlier in the year, Klein had responded to the situation on his podcast, referencing legal action after what he described as defamatory implications involving himself and his family. The dispute escalated across multiple livestreams and commentary videos involving several creators.

In a May 2026 broadcast, iDubbbz issued an apology, stating that he regretted amplifying claims connected to the controversy and acknowledged that involving Klein’s family in the discussion was inappropriate. He later expanded on this in a YouTube video titled Apologizing to Ethan, where he reiterated responsibility for the impact of the content shared.

Following the release of the apology video, Ethan Klein responded publicly, confirming that he had instructed his legal team to drop the lawsuit entirely.
