Three killed in Gujranwala 'honour' killing incident

Police launch manhunt after man opens fire on daughter, son-in-law

GUJRANWALA:

A triple murder incident reportedly linked to an honour-related dispute took place in the Mandiala Waraich area of Cantonment Police Station limits, where a father allegedly shot dead his daughter, her husband, and a family employee.

Police sources said the incident occurred after the daughter of local resident Tariq, identified as Faiza, had contracted a love marriage with Abdul Waheed, a resident of Kali Mandi, shortly after Eidul Fitr.

Police said the couple had returned to Mandiala Waraich village after Eidul Azha when the incident took place on the previous night.

Police said that Tariq allegedly opened fire on the couple, killing both on the spot. During the incident, his employee, identified as Bhutto, reportedly attempted to intervene and stop him, but was also shot dead.

Upon receiving information, senior police officers including the SP City Division, SDPO, and SHO Cantonment reached the scene along with police contingents.

The bodies were shifted to a hospital for post-mortem examination, while forensic teams collected evidence from the crime scene.

SHO Zubair Sial said that the initial investigation suggests the motive may be related to an honour dispute, although the exact circumstances will be determined after the arrest and interrogation of the suspect.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Dr. Ghias Gul Khan took notice of the incident and directed police to arrest the suspect at the earliest and submit a report on the case. Further investigation is underway.
