Facebook and Instagram users across multiple regions reported widespread service disruptions on June 12, with thousands experiencing difficulties accessing Meta’s social media platforms.

Reports of problems began rising sharply during the morning hours, affecting Facebook, Instagram and Facebook Messenger. Users indicated they were unable to log in, load content or access messages normally. The disruption quickly generated significant discussion online as people turned to outage-tracking services to confirm the issues.

According to outage-monitoring platform Downdetector, reports related to Facebook surged to more than 80,000 at the peak of the disruption. Many users described encountering endless loading screens, login failures and delayed message delivery. Similar complaints were also reported by Instagram and Messenger users.

The outage appeared to impact both mobile and web users, although some individuals reported partial access to certain services. While Instagram remained accessible for some users, others experienced slow loading times and intermittent functionality.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and Messenger, had not immediately provided detailed information regarding the cause of the disruption at the time of reporting. The company was expected to investigate the issue as reports continued to emerge from users worldwide.

The incident quickly became one of the most discussed technology stories of the day, highlighting the reliance millions of users place on Meta’s platforms for communication, entertainment and business activities. Large-scale outages affecting social media services often trigger spikes in traffic on outage-monitoring websites as users seek updates and confirmation of service interruptions.

As of publication, the situation remained ongoing, with users continuing to report varying levels of access across Facebook, Instagram and Messenger while awaiting an official update from Meta.
