A third installment in the Jump Street franchise is officially moving forward, with Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum and Ice Cube in talks to reprise their roles in 24 Jump Street.

According to Variety, filmmaker Rodney Rothman is set to direct the upcoming comedy and co-wrote the script alongside Hill and Meghan Malloy. Franchise creators Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who directed 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street, are returning as producers alongside Neal H. Moritz.

The original 2012 film followed undercover cops Schmidt and Jenko, played by Hill and Tatum, as they infiltrated a high school to dismantle a drug operation. The sequel, released in 2014, sent the duo to college and became an even bigger box-office success.

Development on a third Jump Street movie has been ongoing for years. Previous plans included a crossover with the Men in Black franchise, tentatively titled 23 Jump Street, but the project never moved forward.

The new title continues the franchise’s tradition of poking fun at itself. The end credits of 22 Jump Street featured a montage of increasingly absurd sequel ideas, effectively skipping over multiple fictional installments before arriving at 24 Jump Street.

While Hill and Ice Cube are in discussions to return, Tatum currently has an offer on the table, with negotiations expected to begin soon.

No release date has been announced.
