Stranger Than Heaven adds Tupac character as SEGA confirms January 2027 release date

SEGA and RGG Studio have revealed that Tupac Shakur will appear as a character in the upcoming action-adventure game Stranger Than Heaven, while also confirming the game's worldwide release date of January 15 2027.

The announcement was made during Summer Game Fest 2026, where SEGA unveiled a new trailer introducing additional cast members joining the highly anticipated title.

Alongside Tupac, actors Takashi Ukaji, Yasukaze Motomiya, Takaya Kuroda and Kohei Tsuji have been added to the game's cast.

Following the trailer debut, RGG Studio head Masayoshi Yokoyama took to the stage to officially confirm the release date. He was later joined by rapper Snoop Dogg and his son Cordell Broadus, both of whom portray characters in the game.

According to SEGA, Tupac will appear as a new character named Amaru. The publisher said the portrayal has been developed with the permission and ongoing supervision of his estate, Amaru Entertainment.

SEGA stated that RGG Studio worked closely with the estate throughout the development process and that no artificial intelligence was used in recreating the late rapper.

The studio said the character's design was created using archival footage and photographs, with further details about Amaru's role expected to be revealed at a later date.

Snoop Dogg is also contributing to the game's official theme song alongside Satoshi Fujihara, Ado and Tori Kelly, all of whom also have roles within the title.

Stranger Than Heaven will be available on Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Steam and PlayStation 5. Pre-orders are now open across digital and physical editions.

SEGA has also announced a limited Collector's Edition for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The package includes a 12-inch vinyl record featuring the game's main theme and selected soundtrack tracks, a SteelBook case, downloadable content bonuses and exclusive artwork.
