Officers suspended for baton charge reinstated
The City SHO and other police officials who had been suspended for baton charging protestors from the transgender community were reinstated after reconciliation between the two.
According to an order issued by the Haripur District Police Officer (DPO), the ongoing departmental action against the suspended police officers and officials has been terminated after the transgender community and the concerned police officials reconciled. Under the order issued, City SHO Haroon Khan, PASI Noman Arshad, Constable Asim, Constable Faheem Shahzad, Constable Sajjad and Constable Muhammad Zubair have been reinstated.
The incident has been met with amazement by social media users who termed it 'a mockery of the law'.
The transgender community had previously blocked the motorway to protest against restrictions that limited their right to earn. However, when they did not follow police orders to remove the road blockade, police baton charged them, injuring several transgender persons and locking them up. The police officials involved had been suspended for use of violence.
