KARACHI:

Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi has said that eradication of polio remains the government's top priority, adding that all relevant departments are working with a strong national commitment to eliminate the crippling virus.

He expressed these views during a meeting in his office with Dr Nahad Sadr Azodi, a representative of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, who was briefed on ongoing anti-polio efforts in the metropolis.

The commissioner informed the Gates Foundation representative that out of 12 high-risk union councils, environmental samples from 10 had tested negative, calling it an important development for future planning. He expressed hope that the circulating poliovirus would soon be eliminated from Karachi.
