Rabid dog mauls 16 people in Kabirwala

A rabid dog attack in the Kabirwala tehsil of Khanewal district left 16 people injured across several local neighbourhoods on Sunday, officials said.

According to Assistant Commissioner Kabirwala Rana Amir Liaqat, 11 of the victims were treated and administered anti-rabies vaccines at the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Kabirwala, while the remaining five received vaccination at private healthcare facilities.

The incident occurred in multiple areas including Nawan Shehr West, Khaliqabad, Tariqabad, Tauheed Nagar and Hussainabad, where a stray dog reportedly attacked residents, biting men, women and children.

Those treated at the government hospital include 52-year-old Pervez, six-year-old Talha, 70-year-old Allah Nawaz, 30-year-old Muhammad Arif, 12-year-old Abdul Rehman, 56-year-old Manzoor Hussain, 11-year-old Ameen, seven-year-old Abdul Wahab, 36-year-old Abid Hussain, 46-year-old Muhammad Hanif and 42-year-old Tahir Hussain.

Officials confirmed that all victims who received treatment at the hospital are in stable condition.

Assistant Commissioner Rana Amir Liaqat said that legal action is being initiated against the dog's owner.

He added that police and Special Branch teams have been assigned to trace the owner and determine responsibility in the incident.

Authorities have also directed relevant departments to monitor stray animals in the area to prevent further attacks.
