KARACHI:

Like elsewhere in the country, Eidul Azha was celebrated in Karachi with religious zeal and fervour, as thousands of faithful offered Eid prayers at mosques and Eidgahs across the metropolis.

The main congregation was held at Polo Ground, where a large number of people, including Mayor Murtaza Wahab, senior government and administrative officials, political and social figures, and citizens, offered the Eid prayers.

Similar congregations were held at mosques, Imambargahs and open grounds in various parts of the city. In their sermons, prayer leaders highlighted the philosophy of sacrifice, stressing the importance of selflessness, brotherhood and extending help to the underprivileged segments of society. They said Eidul Azha commemorates the great sacrifice of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS).

Special prayers were offered after the congregations for the peace, stability and prosperity of the country.

Strict security arrangements were put in place on the occasion, with heavy contingents of police and Rangers deployed at sensitive locations.
