Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins have once again reignited the internet’s obsession with “Destiel” after opening up about Dean and Castiel’s complicated bond during recent fan convention appearances.

The longtime Supernatural co-stars reflected on the infamous final-season confession scene, fan interpretations of Dean and Castiel’s relationship, and even revisited one of the fandom’s most chaotic convention moments involving a fictional “Destiel baby.”

During an emotional discussion with fans, Ackles clarified that although he understood why viewers connected deeply with the pairing, he never portrayed Dean Winchester as romantically in love with Castiel.

“For those fans of that kind of fan fiction, great,” Ackles explained, noting that Dean’s feelings toward Castiel were always rooted in brotherhood and familial love rather than romantic reciprocation.

Collins, however, revealed that Castiel’s declaration of love in the final season was conceived much later in the series’ run and was not originally planned from the beginning.

He described the moment as “brave and bold,” praising the writers for allowing Castiel to openly express his feelings while also showing Dean responding with acceptance rather than rejection.

Ackles later explained that he viewed the scene more like a family member accepting someone after they come out rather than a romantic confession being returned.

The actors’ comments immediately reignited debate online, with fans once again arguing over whether Dean and Castiel’s relationship should be interpreted as romantic, platonic, or intentionally left somewhere in between.

But the conversation quickly descended into classic convention chaos when a fan reminded the actors about a now-infamous previous exchange involving Dean and Castiel hypothetically having a baby together.
