FAISALABAD:

Two alleged robbers were killed while two other suspects, including a drug peddler, were injured in separate alleged police encounters involving four police stations in Faisalabad on Sunday, police said.

According to police officials, a total of 14 alleged robbers have been killed and 17 injured in reported encounters with police and the Crime Control Department (CCD) during the past 10 days as authorities intensified operations against criminals in the district.

Police said newly appointed City Police Officer (CPO) Tanveer Hussain Tania had recently directed officers during a crime meeting to intensify action against robbers, thieves and drug dealers to curb rising street crime in the city.

In one incident, City Jaranwala police were transporting robbery suspect Moazzam Ali for recovery proceedings near Chak 126-GB Sherwana when four armed accomplices allegedly intercepted the police vehicle and freed him before fleeing towards Sherwana.

Police said a chase followed and the suspects opened fire near Chak 125-GB. During the exchange, Moazzam Ali, who was reportedly wanted in more than 50 serious criminal cases, was allegedly hit by firing from his own accomplices and later died in hospital.

Meanwhile, Madina Town police said a suspect identified as Abdul Jabbar was injured during an alleged encounter on Ghausia Road, while his accomplices escaped.
