MULTAN:

The Punjab Livestock and Dairy Development Department on Saturday launched its largest-ever veterinary operation ahead of Eidul Azha, deploying 1,851 personnel at 251 locations throughout the province to ensure animal health and prevent the spread of contagious diseases.

According to officials, field teams are currently operating at 56 cattle markets, 175 sacrificial animal sale points and 20 inter-provincial checkposts.

As part of preventive measures, anti-tick spray has so far been administered to 185,110 animals, while 10,016 animals have received medical treatment.

At provincial entry points, 1,128 vehicles transporting livestock have been sprayed to curb infectious diseases.

The developments were reviewed during a meeting to assess arrangements and issue directives to field teams across Punjab. Secretary Ahmed Aziz appreciated the frontline veterinary staff and directed them to prioritise animal health, disease prevention and uninterrupted public service on the Eid.

To facilitate citizens, the department has established a 24/7 toll-free helpline alongside provincial control rooms and veterinary hospitals at the district and tehsil levels.
