LAHORE:

A district court on Friday sent an accused to jail on a 14-day judicial remand in a cybercrime case for allegedly sharing explicit videos and images of his former wife on social media and messaging platforms.

Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Naeem Wattoo conducted the hearing of the case registered by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency against accused Syed Hamza Iqbal.

According to the prosecution, the accused allegedly circulated objectionable videos and photographs of his ex-wife through WhatsApp and other social media platforms, sending them to relatives and acquaintances.

During the proceedings, the investigating officer Asif Hussain informed the court that the digital devices used in the alleged offence, including mobile phones containing objectionable material, had been recovered from the accused. He further stated that the investigation had been completed and requested the court to send the accused to judicial custody.

Counsel for the complainant argued before the court that the accused had allegedly subjected his former wife to harassment, recorded explicit videos, and later circulated them online.

He maintained that sufficient evidence had been recovered, including two mobile phones, and urged the court not to grant leniency.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court approved the request and sent the accused to jail on a 14-day judicial remand.

The case will proceed further after completion of the investigation process.
