LAHORE:

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has been informed that the province possesses abundant wheat reserves, with a record production of more than 22 million tonnes achieved this year.

Chairing a meeting on agriculture, food safety and consumer protection, the chief minister said Punjab has sufficient wheat stocks.

It was decided in the meeting to establish an AI-based live dashboard to safeguard every grain of wheat in the province.

The chief minister was informed that the dashboard would play a pivotal role in foolproof food policy-making by monitoring the wheat demand, supply, stock levels and price control mechanisms.

The system will also enable daily and real time digital monitoring of wheat stocks and supply chain across Punjab.

The meeting approved a proposal to allow licensed aggregators and stockists to legally store wheat across the province. It was decided that all licensed stockists would be bound to declare their wheat stocks.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed authorities to initiate strict legal action under the Anti-Hoarding Act against those failing to declare wheat stocks within two weeks.

According to an official statement, it was indicated that the government may offer incentives for honestly declaring the wheat reserves.

Decisions were taken regarding agriculture, food safety, wheat availability and price stability.

The chief minister was given a detailed briefing on the matters.
