WASA seeks Rs52b for Daducha Dam project

The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) Rawalpindi has sent a proposal to the Punjab government seeking inclusion of a Rs52 billion PC-I for the Daducha Dam water supply project in the Annual Development Programme for the next fiscal year.

The project is expected to provide Rawalpindi with an additional 35 million gallons of water daily.

According to spokesperson, Wasa Rawalpindi is currently facing a daily shortfall of 19 million gallons of water for the city, and the shortage is expected to rise further in view of the increasing population. Under the proposed project, 35 million gallons of additional water per day will be supplied from Daducha Dam in future. Of this, 15 million gallons each will be distributed to Rawalpindi city and cantonment areas, while five million gallons per day will be supplied to a major housing scheme.

Meanwhile, the under-construction Chahan Dam water supply project is expected to provide an additional 12 million gallons of water daily to Rawalpindi city by December 2027. Separately, the Khayaban-i-Sir Syed area of Rawalpindi will receive an additional 5 million gallons of water daily from Rawal Dam and Khanpur Dam.
