Iman Vellani, best known for playing Kamala Khan in Ms. Marvel, is making her solo comic book writing debut with a new miniseries titled Chachu.

According to Variety, Chachu is a five-issue neo-noir series that will be published by Image Comics. Set in 1979, the story follows a young boy named Ahmed who moves in with his mysterious uncle after the death of his parents and begins uncovering family secrets.

The comic will feature artwork by Nimit Malavia, whose previous work includes The Somna. Vellani told Variety that the project is deeply personal and inspired by stories from her own family, particularly her relationship with her uncle.

This marks Vellani’s first time writing a comic on her own. She previously co-wrote several Ms Marvel titles for Marvel Comics alongside Sabir Pirzada.

Vellani said she has long wanted to tell a story centered on South Asian family dynamics and identity, and found the perfect opportunity with Chachu. The title itself means “paternal uncle” in Urdu, reflecting the cultural roots at the heart of the story.

The first issue of Chachu is scheduled to be released in October 2026.
